Giant Guatemala Sinkhole Will Enlarge

The giant sinkhole in Guatemala city has already swallowed a building and claimed the life of at least one man. “Depending on the makeup of the subsurface layer, the Guatemala sinkhole could eventually enlarge and take in more buildings.’” told Dr.James Currens, a hydrogeologist from the University of Kentucky who was interviewed by National Geographic. The sinkhole will grow until it reach its equilibrium.

What caused the sinkhole to open up? Guatemalan authorities are blaming Tropical Storm Agatha and torrential rainfall for the sinkhole. However, a hole opened up around the same area in 2007 – showcasing that it might be a little more than just the rain that caused the hole. During the 2007 sinkhole, 3 people were reported dead.

We’ve all probably been in this situation before.

It’s because when we were handed the bottle the first time, we were usually told that the cap is tight or it’s stuck, so we too believe that it’s going to take a lot of effort to unscrew it and we just don’t have it in us. But when somebody else succeed where we failed, we immediately see that it is possible.

When we do something believing that it can be done, we can accomplish anything.
